Ghost Dance Blog Begins Today

John is resuming his weekly meditations on the pandemic, politics, and our civilization’s struggle with entropy, among other things. The new journal is called Ghost Dance, in honor of our current cultural efforts to connect with the greener, more renewable world of our ancestors. New entries will be posted Monday mornings here.

John’s previous blog, End Notes, published from March 2020 through March 2021, can be read here.

Dark Mountain, Issue 19

John’s essay, “Getting to a Tribe of One,” has been published in the Spring 2021 edition of Dark Mountain. The Dark Mountain Project says, “We are walking away from the stories that our societies like to tell themselves, the stories that prevent us seeing clearly the extent of the ecological, social and cultural unravelling that is now underway. We are making art that doesn’t take the centrality of humans for granted. We are tracing the deep cultural roots of the mess the world is in. And we are looking for other stories, ones that can help us make sense of a time of disruption and uncertainty.“

Profile in Idaho Magazine

John and his books are profiled in the latest issue of Idaho Magazine. The article was written by Les Tanner, a former colleague at The College of Idaho. Tanner describes enrolling in his first writing class with John at the age of 61. He has gone on to write and publish many essays and stories. The Idaho Magazine article is a fond look at his writing teacher’s life, influence, and work.
